Project Overview
Every year, PokerBaazi hosts the National Poker Championship, bringing together some of the country’s most skilled poker players to compete on a national stage. For this edition, our objective was to create a series of 11 player testimonial films that went beyond celebrating their achievements. We wanted to uncover the personal journeys behind their success—the sacrifices, struggles, and determination required to pursue a profession that is still often viewed as a taboo in society.
Development
The initial brief was straightforward: create a set of testimonial videos featuring the players. However, having worked on similar projects before, we felt there was an opportunity to tell these stories in a more meaningful and emotionally engaging way.
Instead of placing players in a standard interview setup, we designed custom environments inspired by their real lives, professions, and personal journeys. This approach added authenticity to each story and helped the players feel more comfortable sharing their experiences.
Our focus was to capture genuine emotions and honest conversations, allowing viewers to connect with the people behind the poker tables rather than just their accomplishments.
Final Result
As the project unfolded, we discovered stories that were far more powerful than we had anticipated. Some players revealed that they had kept their poker careers a secret from their families for years due to societal perceptions surrounding the game.
During filming, many participants became emotional while reflecting on their journeys, the challenges they faced, and the eventual acceptance they received from their loved ones. These authentic moments became the heart of the campaign.
The final series successfully transformed a collection of testimonials into deeply human stories of passion, perseverance, and self-belief—highlighting not only the players’ success in poker but also their courage to pursue an unconventional path.
